Recently, a collaborative effort between Guangdong Power Grid Company, Haihong Electric, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, North China Electric Power University, and Advanced Technology & Materials Co., Ltd. has culminated in the successful development and comprehensive testing of the 110kV energy-saving amorphous alloy 3D wound core oil-immersed power transformer. This achievement signifies a new era in China's high-voltage energy-efficient transformer technology and represents a milestone of epoch-making significance in electrical equipment R&D. The product will soon be put into operation at the 110kV Hongchang Substation in Chaonan District, Shantou City.
This transformer not only dramatically reduces operational losses in power systems but also provides a practical solution for carbon emission reduction in the electricity sector. Its successful deployment exemplifies Guangdong Power Grid and Haihong Electric's proactive response to China's "Dual Carbon" strategy and their commitment to corporate social responsibility, injecting fresh momentum into the nation's pursuit of carbon neutrality.
Overcoming Challenges: A Quantum Leap in China's Amorphous Alloy Transformer Technology
As the world's first 110kV-class energy-saving amorphous alloy 3D wound core power transformer, its core innovation lies in the seamless integration of low-loss amorphous alloy materials with a 3D wound core structure for high-voltage applications. Through a novel core suspension design, the team achieved reliable suspension of a 10+ ton amorphous alloy 3D wound core while effectively controlling noise and enhancing short-circuit resistance.
During development, the team conquered multiple technical hurdles, including large-scale amorphous strip winding processes, annealing techniques, and core short-circuit resistance optimization. Rigorous quality control in core winding and assembly ensured low operational noise, exceptional short-circuit resilience, and long-term reliability.
Having passed all third-party authoritative tests (including short-circuit resistance certification), this transformer marks China's global leadership in amorphous alloy transformer technology, propelling the industry into an unprecedented development phase.
Advancing the "Dual Carbon" Agenda: Pioneering a New Era of Energy-Efficient High-Voltage Substation Equipment
Aligned with China's 2030 carbon peak and neutrality goals, the power sector's green transition is paramount. Combining amorphous alloy materials with 3D wound core technology, this transformer delivers unparalleled energy efficiency: no-load losses plummet over 60% below GB 20052-2024 Tier 1 efficiency standards, while load losses decrease by over 5%.
For a single 20,000kVA unit, annual energy savings reach 120,000 kWh, equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions by 72 tons. (The above data is for reference only.) Its widespread adoption will safeguard China's transition to a renewable energy-dominant power grid while providing robust equipment support for large-scale energy conservation across generation, distribution, and supply chains—propelling China to the forefront of green high-voltage substation technology.
