On September 29, the world’s first 110kV energy-saving amorphous alloy 3D wound core oil-immersed power transformer was officially connected to the grid and put into operation at the Hongchang Substation of Shantou Power Supply Bureau, Guangdong, under China Southern Power Grid. The successful deployment of this critical equipment injects strong momentum into the power grid’s advancement of green power system construction and the implementation of the national “Dual Carbon” strategy, while also marking China’s entry into the global forefront of green power equipment technology.

The world’s first 110kV energy-saving amorphous alloy 3D wound core oil-immersed power transformer represents a key achievement in Guangdong Power Grid’s efforts to build a new power system and a major breakthrough in the energy and power sector. The development of this transformer pooled top expertise from multiple stakeholders. Guided by an innovative spirit of “daring to lead the world,” Guangdong Power Grid Co., Ltd. spearheaded the “Key Technology Research Project for the 110kV Energy-Saving Amorphous Alloy 3D Wound Core Oil-Immersed Power Transformer.” Collaborating with Haihong Electric (the primary R&D unit), Huazhong University of Science and Technology, North China Electric Power University, and AT&M, among other industry-academia-research entities, the project focused on upgrading power equipment energy-saving technologies and ensuring safe operation. After multiple rounds of technological breakthroughs and experimental validation, the ultra-energy-saving power transformation equipment was successfully developed. A total of 24 patents were applied for during the process, with multiple technologies recognized as “world’s first.”

As a representative of energy-saving transformers, the core material uses high-permeability, low-loss amorphous alloy strips, and the core adopts an energy-saving 3D wound core structure. Compared to traditional transformers, the no-load loss is reduced by over 60%, and the load loss is decreased by more than 5%. It saves approximately 120,000 kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 72 tons, achieving internationally leading levels in energy efficiency. Additionally, the equipment exhibits excellent short-circuit resistance and noise control performance, further enhancing the power grid’s safety and stability. It is better suited to the complex operating conditions of new power systems, providing robust support for reliable power supply in regional grids.

The successful grid connection and operation of this project exemplify the deepening of energy equipment innovation and the promotion of green, low-carbon transformation. In recent years, Haihong Electric has consistently pursued technological innovation as a concrete action to support the national “Dual Carbon” goals, continuously driving the energy-saving and intelligent upgrade of power equipment. The successful application of this project’s equipment not only lays the foundation for the large-scale promotion of similar devices but also contributes Chinese solutions to the global energy transition, supporting the international expansion of China’s energy-saving power transformation equipment.
