During the National Day holiday, multiple teams from Haihong Electric frequently worked inside a paper manufacturing workshop. From September 30 to October 8, taking advantage of the customer’s production shutdown window during the holiday, the company completed the Phase I renewal project of more than 50 oil-immersed transformers. Adopting simultaneous cross-construction across multiple zones, including dismantling old equipment, positioning and commissioning new units, the project achieved power cut and power restoration on the same day in each area, minimizing impacts on production.

As a large enterprise in the paper-making industry, the customer plans to replace over 70 ageing transformers in total under this round of transformer energy-saving renovation. According to calculations, once the full renovation is completed, the enterprise can save 3.057 million kWh of electricity annually, cut electricity expenses by 2.2928 million yuan, and reduce carbon emissions by 1,640 tons per year. (The above figures are theoretical calculations for reference only.)

The paper industry is a major energy-consuming sector in Guangdong. Relevant statistics of Guangdong Province show that the energy consumption of the paper industry ranks 7th among all industrial enterprises above designated size in the province, with energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of industrial added value reaching 3.52 times the average level of industrial enterprises above designated size. Electricity cost directly determines the operational benefits of paper mills. The customer’s original S9, S11, ZS11 oil-immersed transformers as well as SCB10 and SCB11 dry-type transformers have been operating under continuous heavy load, with prominent issues including transformer aging, degraded insulation performance and failed cooling systems, leading to rising equipment losses and potential safety hazards. This renovation marks a joint practice by the paper enterprise and Haihong Electric to respond to the national deployment of large-scale equipment renewal and push forward carbon reduction in key energy-consuming industries.

In 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other authorities issued the Implementation Plan for High-Quality Development of Energy-Saving Equipment (2026–2028), proposing to drive transformer energy efficiency to reach internationally leading standards. Guangdong has rolled out its three-year action plan for energy-saving and carbon reduction renovation in key industries, listing the paper industry as a priority sector to accelerate the iterative upgrade of high-energy-consuming power equipment.

In the early stage of the renovation, the Haihong Electric team conducted precise diagnosis of the power distribution system at the customer’s plant. Customized solutions were formulated considering differences in workshop operating conditions, future load variations, on-site supporting rectification and the requirement for short production shutdowns. The project adopts a series of energy-saving 3D Wound Core transformers, including 3D WOUND CORE OIL-IMMERSED TRANSFORMER, rectifier transformers and Fully-Insulated Low-Temperature-Rise 3D Wound Core Dry-Type Transformer with Cooling System. Supporting works including copper bar modification, flexible connection rectification, handover tests and overall commissioning & acceptance were also delivered.

Production enterprises are most concerned about capacity losses caused by power outages during renovation. Through negotiations between both parties, the Phase I renovation was intensively executed during the National Day holiday window. The project coordinated the whole workflow covering equipment supply, hoisting & dismantling, power cut & restoration, testing and commissioning to enable parallel operations across multiple zones and rapid power restoration. This project is not a simple equipment replacement, but an integrated upgrade of the power distribution system. It eliminates safety risks of ageing equipment, improves power supply reliability of the plant, and delivers multiple benefits in safety, energy conservation and cost reduction.

Large-scale equipment renewal and the delivery of dual carbon goals are ultimately reflected in the application of energy-saving technologies, driving green transformation of high-energy-consuming enterprises. In the green transformation of Guangdong’s manufacturing sector, energy-saving renovations carried out by paper enterprises continue to build the foundation for green development of energy-intensive industries. After the remaining transformers are connected to the grid and put into operation successively, the energy-saving and carbon reduction dividends of this renovation will keep emerging, providing a replicable practical model for energy saving and carbon reduction in the paper-making industry.
