At the 2026 Academic Symposium of the Transmission and Transformation Materials Special Committee of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, the booth of Haihong Electric stood out as one of the most eye-catching exhibition booths. Many participating experts stopped by, focusing their attention on the scaled-down model of the Fully insulated low-temperature-rise 3D wound core dry-type transformer. The delicate, compact model faithfully reproduces the product structure. Its fully insulated configuration, circular coils and hybrid insulation system clearly demonstrate the advanced core technologies of the Fully insulated low-temperature-rise 3D wound core dry-type transformer developed by Haihong for all experts present.

Chen Weijiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Special Committee, and Hu Rui, Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, visited the booth successively and exchanged views with Haihong’s technical team on structural design and insulation system design. Supported by the model, technicians elaborated on the compact design and insulation coordination scheme. The two experts spoke highly of the product’s innovative structure and reliable insulation performance.

During the symposium, Academician Chen Weijiang shared three understandings and three hopes regarding the development of transmission and transformation materials. Three Understandings: Shift in priority: from equipment-led development to material-first development; Shift in evaluation: from single-indicator compliance to overall service life assessment; Shift in R&D mode: from trial-and-error formulation to data-driven research. Three Hopes: Continue to delve into fundamental mechanism research and sustain long-term research efforts; Improve supporting standards to remove bottlenecks for the engineering application of new materials; Cultivate young talents and encourage researchers to devote themselves to long-cycle material research.

As an enterprise engaged in the application of transmission and transformation materials, Haihong Electric deeply resonates with the “three understandings” put forward by Academician Chen Weijiang. These ideas align closely with Haihong’s development roadmap and further strengthen the Company’s commitment to focusing on the R&D of 3D Wound Core technologies.

First, shift in priority: from equipment-led development to material-first development. Haihong keeps pushing forward research on new materials including nano-amorphous alloys and ultra-thin silicon steel cores, and develops low-loss energy-saving transformers combined with 3D Wound Core technology. Breakthroughs in new materials keep expanding the application scope of this technology.

Second, shift in evaluation: from single-indicator compliance to full-life-cycle assessment. The Fully insulated low-temperature-rise 3D wound core dry-type transformer features integrated matching of structure and insulating materials. It adopts insulating materials of high heat resistance grade while achieving low operating temperature rise, extending the service life of the insulation system. After commissioning, the service life of transformer insulating materials matters far more than isolated performance indicators.

Third, shift in R&D mode: from trial-and-error formulation to data-driven research. For every iteration of new materials and new structures, Haihong carries out a full range of tests on temperature rise, short-circuit resistance, noise and other parameters, and relies on measured data to support product launch. All advantages demonstrated by the exhibited products are backed by complete batches of test data.

Industry experts pointed out at the symposium that power grid composite materials need to balance mechanical properties, weather resistance and insulation performance. For offshore wind power and coastal high salt-fog areas, corrosion protection of power equipment remains a key research challenge. Material selection for the full range of Haihong products is well adapted to complex working conditions. The Fully insulated low-temperature-rise 3D wound core dry-type transformer adopts a hybrid insulation system; material schemes for oil-immersed transformers and Miniaturized Double-layer Prefabricated Substation enclosures are optimized to enhance moisture resistance, pollution resistance and corrosion resistance, meeting the demands of coastal scenarios with high humidity and heavy salt spray.

Haihong’s technical achievements have moved beyond laboratory research, and a series of products have been connected to the power grid for commercial operation in batches. The world’s first 110kV amorphous alloy 3D Wound Core oil-immersed transformer exceeding Class 1 energy efficiency was highlighted and recommended at a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The INTEGRATED ONE-STOP CHARGING STATION and Miniaturized Double-layer Prefabricated Substation address pain points of new energy charging and photovoltaic grid connection. The Fully insulated low-temperature-rise 3D wound core dry-type transformer is applicable to various extreme operating conditions.

This symposium creates resonance between Haihong Electric’s R&D practices and insights shared by industry experts. The material-first concept must be implemented in products, service life assessment must be reflected in field operation, and data-driven R&D must be verified through testing. For Haihong, this participation is more than a simple technology showcase. The Company came to the event with mature power distribution solutions for industry exchanges, and gained the latest development trends and expert consensus in the field of transmission and transformation materials. Haihong Electric will lead the development of 3D Wound Core transformers, translate cutting-edge industry insights into more highly reliable products, and work together with the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering and industry peers to empower high-quality development of the electrical industry and provide solid power distribution equipment support for the construction of the new power system.
